The North Law Firm and Lee Pitts Live held their Annual Black History Month Concert Honors Gala.  This year’s event honored Bishop Halsey Watkins and Dr. Linda Watkins of the Jesus Christ Outreach Center.  The event, which had more than 300 guests, was held at Franklin Park Elementary School.

According to Lee Pitts, the event is held every year, during Black History Month, to honor an individual (or individuals) who has contributed to our community in a positive and significant way.  Last year’s honoree was Carl Burnside, the Principal of Dunbar High School.

This year, Joe North and Lee Pitts were happy to honor Bishop Halsey Watkins and Dr. Linda Watkins for their combined impact in the community.  Joe North explained that for decades, the Watkins team has been feeding our community.  During the early years, the couple “physically” fed the community from their grocery store, which was known as the “Home of the Soul Bag.”  And now,  the couple “spiritually” feeds the community with “Love by the Gallons” at the Jesus Christ Outreach Center.  According to Joe North, the Watkins team is now providing a Spiritual Soul Bag.

During the gala, Bishop Watkins and Dr. Watkins were surrounded by their beautiful family, which includes 5 children, 24 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.  The couple has been married for 52 years and have been the leaders of the Jesus Christ Outreach Center for 36 years.  They are proud to have established five additional churches throughout Florida and Georgia, including various ministries and programs.

Franklin Park’s principal, Dr. Mia German, was proud to host the event.  The space inside Franklin Park was transformed and decorated by Teasha Green of Something Blue TG.  The grand affair was catered by Southern Charm Bistro.  And the concert was performed by Dr. Ronald James and the Fabulous James Sisters, including their special performance of “Lord Do It For Me.”

Thank you to everyone for your support during Black History Month.
