This year as we go into 2025, we may have made some new commitments to do better with our lives. Those are good things to do, not just once a year but every day. However, when we are struggling with things we are doing that shouldn’t be doing; we have to give it to God. The Bible teaches that when faced with challenges or battles, we should not rely on our own strength or abilities, but trust in God to fight on our behalf. 2 Chronicles 20:15 – “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
This was a situation where King Jehoshaphat was facing a great army that was waiting to battle them and he was ready to throw in the towel–until the word came from the Lord through His prophet. Today, I encourage you to not give up even if you feel like it. That stronghold keeping you in sin (whatever sin that is) is not your battle but God’s. We have a part in overcoming them by giving God our sin and asking God to forgive you and repent. When we are weak, He is strong (2 Cor 12:9). Ask God to take it from you. He will do it! If you need to seek additional help, find a Bible-believing church and leadership will provide additional resources where needed.
By acknowledging that the battle is not ours, we can find peace and rest in knowing that God is in control and will provide the victory. The entire Bible encourages us to have faith, trust in God’s power, do not fear and seek His guidance in times of difficulty. Learn this year to seek Him. Seek Him first thing in the morning. Get on the Bible app and listen to the word of God. Play it in your car, when you are brushing your teeth, etc. Start in Genesis, start in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Or just open it and read. God wants a relationship with you and you need Him to overcome and be victorious. Start today! You won’t regret it. Happy New Year! Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
