A Teacher, A Neighbor, A Candidate: Why I’m Running for District 4 School Board

After more than 30 years in Lee County and a career spent in its classrooms, Gisele “Gigi” Gentile is stepping up for District 4 families.

I have lived in Lee County since 1991. I raised my family here. I watched this community grow from a small Southwest Florida gem into one of the fastest-growing counties in the state. And for much of those 30-plus years, I have spent my time in a place that tells you everything you need to know about a community: its schools.

I started as a substitute teacher — a job that sounds simple until you actually do it. Every day, a different classroom. Different students, different needs, different energy. It teaches you to read a room in 90 seconds. It teaches you that every child is genuinely different, and that cookie-cutter approaches leave too many kids behind. It was the best education in education I could have asked for.

From there, I moved into special education — and that is where my heart has lived ever since. I have worked with students who carry challenges that most people never see: learning differences, emotional trauma, developmental needs that demand patience, creativity, and an unshakeable belief that every child is capable. I have sat across from kids the system had written off. And I have watched them prove every prediction wrong when someone finally believed in them and refused to give up.

“I have sat with children the system had written off — and watched them prove every prediction wrong when someone finally believed in them.”

That experience — not a policy paper, not a political party, but real experience in real classrooms — is exactly why I am running for Lee County School Board, District 4.

District 4 families deserve a representative who has actually done the work. Who knows what teachers face because I have faced it. Who understands what struggling students need because I have sat with them. Who will walk into that boardroom and fight — every single meeting — for the children and families of this community.

I am running as a nonpartisan candidate because I believe our children’s education should never be a political battleground. My platform is built on four pillars that I believe every family in District 4 can rally behind: academic achievement and literacy, parental transparency, school safety and mental health, and teacher support and retention.

Over the coming months, I will be writing in this space about each of these issues in depth — because you deserve to know exactly where I stand and why. No slogans. No spin. Just the real conversation that District 4 has been waiting for.

I am asking for your vote this August. But more than that, I am asking for your partnership — because great schools are not built by school boards alone. They are built by communities that show up, speak up, and refuse to settle for anything less than the best for their children.

I am Gigi Gentile. I have been your neighbor for over 30 years. Now I want to be your school board member.

Students first. Community always.
